Food Policy Action Applauds Bi-Partisan Senate Agreement on Child Nutrition
Chef and FPA co-founder Tom Colicchio’s Statement
WASHINGTON, DC — Today the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry Committee released a bi-partisan bill that would reauthorize child nutrition programs, including the national school lunch and breakfast programs, for five years.
“This bill, while not perfect, is a huge step in the right direction. It was no easy feat for Senators Roberts and Stabenow to produce a bi-partisan compromise bill that protects the progress we made on nutrition standards in 2010,” said Tom Colicchio, FPA co-founder and food advocate. “After years of talking about giving schools the tools they need to succeed, I’m thrilled that this bill makes important investments in school kitchen equipment, farm to school programs, and additional food for children in child care for more than 9 hours a day. I hope we see the Senate and House take this bill up quickly.”
