Food Policy Action Expands Team
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Karen Spangler has joined the Food Policy Action team in the newly-created position of Policy and Operations Manager. Ms. Spangler will be coordinating the production of the National Food Policy Scorecard, assisting in Food Policy Action’s advocacy efforts, and supporting its long-term organizational sustainability.
Ms. Spangler brings with her a wealth of knowledge and passion for sustainable food systems. A native of Michigan, she holds a Master of Public Policy and a Master of Urban Planning from the University of Michigan. Prior to relocating to Washington, D.C., Ms. Spangler worked with food access and environmental conservation organizations in southeast Michigan, focused on the needs of urban communities.
Launched in 2012 through a collaboration of national food policy leaders, Food Policy Action works to raise the political profile of food issues nationally. The National Food Policy Scorecard acts as a tool to educate the public on how elected officials vote on a full range of food policy issues including: healthy diets, hunger, food access and affordability, the rights and dignity of food and farm workers, public health and the environment, food safety, local and regional food systems, and the humane treatment of farm animals.
On Tuesday, November 17, Food Policy Action will release the 2015 National Food Policy Scorecard, which will rate lawmakers of the 114th Congress on food and farm legislation from the first session.
