Chef Tom Colicchio, Food Policy Action Co-Founder Attends State of the Union

WASHINGTON, DC – Chef Tom Colicchio, Food Policy Action Co-Founder and Board Member attended the State of the Union this evening in Washington, DC as Congresswoman Chellie Pingree’s (D-ME) guest.

Colicchio, who makes frequent trips to Washington to meet with lawmakers on issues that impact the food system like GMO labeling and social safety net programs like SNAP (formerly food stamps) was glad to be in the audience tonight at the State of the Union to hear President Obama talk about priorities and common ground for 2015.

“Few things have as much direct impact on our day-to-day lives as food,” said Chef Tom Colicchio, Food Policy Action co-founder. “While not front and center in the President’s speech tonight, there is a lot of good, bi-partisan work to be done in the next year to improve the countries food supply.”

Food Policy Action was established in 2012 through a collaboration of national food policy leaders in order to hold legislators accountable on votes that impact food and farming.

“Food Policy Action will once again be scoring Members of the House and Senate on votes that impact the food system,” said Colicchio “We know consumers are hungry for more information about how their elected officials are voting on policies that impact food and how its grown in this country. Our goal is to arm the public with better information and ultimately hold Congress accountable.”

Congresswoman Pingree is an organic farmer in Maine and a leader on local and sustainable food issues in Congress.
