In powerful photos by award-winning photographer Danny Clinch, top celebrities share their faces to solve the problem of hunger facing one in four American children

NEW YORK (Jun. 27, 2017)A Place At The Table today launched its Fuel the Potential national photo ad campaign, bringing together dozens of well-known figures from entertainment, writing, political activism and the culinary arts in photos shot by acclaimed photographer Danny Clinch. The ads are being rolled out to strengthen A Place At The Table’s ongoing multi-platform campaign to galvanize Americans and demand action to end hunger in the United States.

Over the next six months, photos of over twenty celebrities including John Leguizamo, Julianna Margulies, Josh Lucas, Questlove, Christian Siriano, Jarobi White, Edie Falco, Joseph Arthur, Sarah Jones, Zainab Salbi, Ted Allen, Rosie Perez, Waris Ahluwalia, Alexander Smalls, Michael Kelly, James Connolly, Jon Gray, Tom Colicchio, Jonathan Safran Foer, and others will be placed in prime media spots, on social media channels, and profiled on www.foodisfuel.org. Everyone can get involved by liking and sharing the celebrity photographs and by sharing their own stories on how food fueled their potential by using hashtag #FoodIsFuel.

“In the land of plenty, it is unacceptable that one in seven Americans go hungry every day,” said actor, father, and musician Michael Kelly. “I am part of this campaign because I believe more can and must be done to solve hunger and prevent drastic cuts to SNAP and the nutrition assistance programs that people rely on for basic and life-sustaining nutrition. I hope A Place At The Table’s campaign jolts more people into action, like it has me, in order to change the conversation and help solve hunger in our nation.”

“Hunger is a complex problem, but history shows it can be solved if our leaders make it a priority—we’ve done it before,” said Tom Colicchio, chef, food advocate, and co-founder of Food Policy Action Education Fund—the organization managing A Place At The Table. “This ad campaign seeks to galvanize a new energy around ending hunger while fostering solutions to make nutrition more affordable and accessible.”

“I am honored to be part of this fight to end hunger, fuel America’s potential, and prevent drastic cuts to the critical SNAP program,” said Zainab Salbi, humanitarian, author, and women’s rights activist. “We must step up to change the conversation and perception of hunger to fix the problem. We are all better off when we—and our neighbors—have enough food to eat.”

Nearly 16 million American households—including over 13 million children—face hunger. A Place At The Table is dedicated to building the public will required to support the public and private policies that can end hunger. “A Place At The Table wants Americans to know that in order for people to live up to their potential, they must have adequate nutrition,” said Lori Silverbush, producer of the documentary A Place At The Table. “We created this entire campaign to be bold. It had to be something that made people understand that in the end, hunger affects us all.”

Fuel the Potential photos feature actors, writers, designers, chefs, and musicians whose roads to reaching their dreams were made possible by getting the healthy, nutritious food they needed at a young age. “So many great and passionate people were part of this project, and this just seemed truly important to do right now at this moment,” said award-winning photographer Danny Clinch. “I wanted the shots to feel like a really soulful portrait and reflect how we can all use our reach to do good.”

BBH NY and media agency MEC are partnering with A Place At The Table. Tim Castree, Global CEO of MEC, said, “MEC is confident that featuring a group of such passionate individuals in prime media spots will inspire Americans to step up and solve this urgent problem in our country.”

The Fuel the Potential campaign is part of A Place At The Table’s multi-year and multi-platform effort to end hunger. In January, A Place At The Table kicked off its PSA campaign featuring former First Lady Michelle Obama and working Americans struggling with hunger. A Place At The Table will be rolling out more bold campaigns to solve hunger. In addition to ads with celebrities, the campaign plans to feature veterans, armed service members, students, families, seniors, and Americans from all walks of life.
