Co-Sponsorship Activity for: Gulf States Red Snapper Management Act

Bill Info: This bill would transfer management of Gulf of Mexico red snapper from the fisheries council as currently required under the Magnuson-Stevens Act to a newly form Gulf State management authority. The current management of Gulf of Mexico red snapper provides for fair take allotments for commercial fishers, and provides a sustainably harvested source of seafood for consumers. Transfer of this authority out of the current process would result in a less transparent process, potentially reduce the voice of those who depend on the red snapper stock for their livelihood, and ultimately roll back the health of the fish stock.
