Group helped defeat Scott Garrett; secured stronger food champion for New Jersey and the 115th Congress

Today, the co-founders of Food Policy Action (FPA), an organization dedicated to educating the public about the votes their elected leaders take on critically important food issues, applauded Josh Gottheimer on his win in New Jersey’s 5th Congressional District.

“We congratulate Josh Gottheimer on his win this week. Food matters in elections,” said Tom Colicchio, Food Policy Action Co-Founder, food advocate and chef. “Voters in New Jersey made their voices heard and said ‘no more rotten food policies’. They want their elected officials to support a food system that promotes nutrition, food safety, and ending hunger – this win reflect that. We will continue to arm the public with information to hold their elected officials accountable for their food policy record.”

“Voters care about these issues and want to help fix our out of balance food system.Food is connected to every critical issue facing our nation, and how Members of Congress vote on related policies has a tremendous impact on our food system up and down the food chain. We congratulate Josh Gottheimer for his win, and we look forward to working with him in the next Congress to change our food system for the better,” said Ken Cook, Food Policy Action Board Chairman and Co-Founder.

Food Policy Action devoted significant resources in New Jersey’s 5th Congressional race as part of a nationwide half-million dollar effort to hold elected officials accountable for their votes on food policy. In addition to polling, the organization conducted a targeted voter persuasion and turnout program –  including canvassing, telephone calls, mail and digital ads – throughout the 2016 election cycle to get voters to elect more food champions to Congress.
